Is Berkman an injury risk in 2008?

Postby rib217 » Tue Mar 04, 2008 4:07 pm

I was happy to land Berkman as the 11th pick in the 3rd round of my draft and love the idea of him having a great year; Be nice if he could bring his avg up a bit. Ever since i drafted him though i have been stressed in the back of my mind that he is plagued with injuries and could have a DL stint or 2 this year.

What do the cafe experts think? Is Berkman a risk or am i being paranoid?

From a standpoint of where you selected him, amazing pick and I can't believe he actually fell that far. I wouldn't be too worried about Berkman's health this year, and his overall stats should go back up as he surrounded by an large array of talent in new addition of Miggy, as well as Lee and Pence.

Average at-bats and games played over the last seven years:

543 AB
152 games played

;-D

He hasn't missed an extensive number of consecutive games since starting the 2005 season on the DL.

Berkman's permanent move to playing 1b exclusively really minimizes his injury risk since he won't be playing right field ever again.

*knock on wood* -- Sure he could get injured, but so can every one else. Talk to D. Lee, Soriano, Crisp, etc. I've grabbed him in several leagues and and looking forward to a great season from him.

If you're worried about the oblique, Berkman's hitting with little or no major ill effects. I don't see that affecting him at the beginning of the year and with Berkman firmly planted at 1B, it's not likely to see him come out as really fragile.

Unless there is some news about him being injured, then yes you are being paranoid. Plagued with injuries? Why do you think that? :-?

I'm more worried about a slight decine in production than injury. His power numbers should be decent with 30 HRs again, but I'm thinking his average and Ks will bring down his value a bit. I'm taking Tex over him and consider him mid third round.
