Theriot will be fine. He is Roberts sans power.

Sure, Theriot will be fine, but I imagine the Cubs would like an upgrade over Derosa...

The Cubs try to aquire a leadoff hitter, to replace Theriot.

I'm confused. First you say Theriot will be fine, then you say the Cubs...um...what does that last post mean? Wait a minute...were you PUI? ;-)

Anyhoo, I agree with lbblue. I think Theriot's a nice SS and bottom of the order guy, but Roberts at leadoff and 2B over Derosa would be a significant boost to Chicago's lineup. I would much rather have Roberts at 1 and Theriot at 8 than Theriot at 1 and Derosa at 8.

The Cubs were triyng to aquire Roberts as an upgrade over Theriot as a leadoff hitter and not as a defensive upgrade over DeRosa at second!!

BTW I would much rather have Hanley Ramirez at short and hitting leadoff. Or Ichiro as CF and hitting leadoff. Vlad at RF. Utley at second.
And thriot, pie, and derosa on some other team.

Ya think?

That would be nice for Lou. Unfortunately, I don't think the Cubs have the farm system to pull all those moves off.

Wow, would that be a great trade(s) for the Cubbies! Too bad there isn't a snowball's chance in Hell that would ever happen...the more likely scenario would still be Roberts moving to Chicago sometime in 2008

Sure, Roberts would make the Cubs better, but do they don't have to be desperate or anything. Their current lineup is just fine for the NL and there is no sense in overpaying for this upgrade. If you are the O's you are trying to get the most in return so I don't fault them, but unless a team develops a distinct NEED for a second baseman Baltimore is probably not likely to get full value for Roberts. And if you are the Orioles, you really don't need to get rid of him for less than full value.

As Syfo stated, a deadline deal is more likely.
