Your View on Trade Offers

Postby RyanK » Mon Mar 03, 2008 12:50 pm

I was just thinking about my team in my keeper/contract league, it changed many-a-face this off season, as did many other teams in my league.

just curious on the perception of trades from members here

I voted other.

I would like to trade more and make and get more offers but at least in my main league it is difficult to trade.

I don't really like trading for the sake of trading, but I do end up being more active on the trading front than most players in my leagues. I usually draft teams that are heavy on HR/RBI guys. That leaves me needing to make mid-season trades to shore up my starting pitching and/or add stolen bases.

I would say that 80% of my trades in the past 3-4 years have been giving up hitting to get pitching.

For the most part, I usually stick with the team I drafted early on. I know that I probably drafted one of the better teams in the league so there's no need to mess with it until I see how the free agents and injuries pan out. Plus, most of the guys on my roster I'm very high either because they were undervalued on draft day or have the potential to break-out in a big way. For this reason, I don't find that I can get appropriate value most of the time. I'll only over-pay mid-season when I'm certain that I need some help in an area.

Trading is my favorite part of FBB, but I'll only make trades that help my team. So I chose that one.

I try to sell high as often as possible, trying to acquire as many top talent guys as I can even if it costs me pitching or a hot bat in my lineup that I think is being over valued. example, last year traded king felix after his second shutout along with cuddyer who was hitting like .330-.350 at the time for ryan howard who wasn't hitting at all. between howard and rollins there was no beating my team the final two weeks when they both dominated.

I'm usually confident with the teams I draft and work the wire if I have to.

I like to wheel and deal. It's the trade talk and negotiation I like best. For me, it's not just offer/reject, offer/accept for me - I like the give/take as owners figure out what will work. Nothing bugs me more than an owner that won't reply to a trade offer or trade talk.

Does it bug you when you get a reply like, "So and so player is not available." or "No thanks."? Not everybody is looking to tinker, and in my experiences, most people, when they tinker, especially early, do more harm than good; even some of the better players out there.
