Patterson kept holding out and holding out, but he never found the deal he wanted. At least the Reds can give him an opportunity to claim a starting job, though he'll be a long shot to play full-time initially. Worrying about arbitration clocks is for teams that don't have a shot to win the division this year. I know the Reds are laughable but they're in a very winnable division - you don't give up wins at the start of the year just to preserve the arbitration clock on a guy Dusty will probably find a way to screw up anyways. As a Cubs fan I applaud this decision. Pick up Corey Patterson so that Dusty can bat his lifetime 0.298 obp leadoff and take one more team out of contention against the Cubs.

I don't disagree with you but good lord...if they find a way to increase Harang's innings I think his arm might fall off! He's been over 230 for the last two years. Arroyo was over 240 in '06 and over 210 last year. I really don't think there's enough duct tape in Cincinnati to make that happen.
