I picked this guy up as my last pick for some cheap steals. Does anybody know if he is playing this year?

Latest I heard is that the Reds may sign him. Baker has talked to Lofton and Patterson, but I think he's still evaluating Hopper/Freel/Bruce before making a decision...

Patterson to Reds
From Rotoworld:
The Reds have reportedly signed Corey Patterson and Jerry Hairston Jr. to minor league deals.

Patterson kept holding out and holding out, but he never found the deal he wanted. At least the Reds can give him an opportunity to claim a starting job, though he'll be a long shot to play full-time initially. This does make it more likely that Jay Bruce will head to Triple-A initially Mar. 3 - 7:33 pm et

Leave it to Dusty Baker to find a way to block Jay Bruce. :-P

They don't want the FA clock to start. Anyway with a player like Griffey injured often i don't see him spending much time in AAA.

Worrying about arbitration clocks is for teams that don't have a shot to win the division this year. I know the Reds are laughable but they're in a very winnable division - you don't give up wins at the start of the year just to preserve the arbitration clock on a guy Dusty will probably find a way to screw up anyways. As a Cubs fan I applaud this decision. Pick up Corey Patterson so that Dusty can bat his lifetime 0.298 obp leadoff and take one more team out of contention against the Cubs. ;-D

This is a Dusty-type move. He doesn't like young players.
Also, look for the starting pitchers innings to increase.

I don't disagree with you but good lord...if they find a way to increase Harang's innings I think his arm might fall off! He's been over 230 for the last two years. Arroyo was over 240 in '06 and over 210 last year. I really don't think there's enough duct tape in Cincinnati to make that happen.
