Educating With Fantasy Sports

Two years ago I did fantasy football math every Tuesday. A few of those kids didn't give a rats rear about school and asked when this and that would help them in life. Then, once we got started, they were so eager for learning math (graphing, stats, equations, etc.) that they would chart their teams on their own time at home. One of them is a heck of a tailback and second baseman, and he told me he charts what he does every game exactly how we charted in class. He has great grades in math now, but hates all his others One of the girls continues to graph her progress in volleyball. Cool stuff!

*applause* for you guys!! You sound like great teachers!! Getting kids engaged with math can be very challenging but it appears that you have got them engaged to the point where they will move to the next phase...winning!
