Has taken on a Mentor role w/ the young guns in the lineup and this season imo will feel way less heat in the rotation with the addition of Santana and a deeper bullpen (Feliciano/Smith/Sosa/Sanchez/Heilman/Wagner/Kunz/El Duqe/Armas Jr..

Feb 20 Bart Hubbuch, of the New York Post, reports New York Mets SP Pedro Martinez threw a 55-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, Feb. 19. Pitching coach Rick Peterson instructed Martinez to close his eyes on some of his throws, causing some pitches to go wild. "It's to get the feel of your body doing things naturally," Martinez said. "It helps you mentally. Once you throw with your eyes closed and have no idea where it's going, it makes it easier to hit the target [when your eyes are open]."
