Shortstop is a Mess...

After looking at my SS rankings, I really don't like what I see:

Tier 1: Hanley, Reyes, Rollins (all Top 8 and out of reach if you draft late in the 1st round)
Tier 2: Jeter, Guillen, Tulowitski, Tejada (all overvalued except Guillen)
Tier 3: Furcal, Young (Furcal is interesting, Young on the decline)
Tier 4: Greene, Renteria, Cabrera (I don't want any of these guys as my starting SS)
Tier 5: Hardy, Escobar, Drew, Peralta, Lugo, Theriot

- Thoughts on the tiers?
- I don't see any big rookies or unknown sleepers coming out of nowhere (unless you want to hitch a ride on Crosby )
- Guillen looks like a decent target for where he's being drafted
- Do any of those Tier 5 guys look interesting?
--- Hardy is only 25 (which I didn't realize)
--- Drew finished strong last year
--- Peralta put up decent numbers last year
--- What can Escobar do this year with Renteria gone?

to me if you miss out on one of the big 3 and just missed tulo rounds later i'd rather wait, sit back and gamble on drew with a late round pick in hopes his hot end of the season/playoffs carries over.

I would take Renteria as my starting SS. That lineup is sick and he is going to score a lot of runs. I would rather have him as the starter than waiting and taking a chance on Drew to be your starter.

Yeah, Renteria looks like a pretty solid option, Detroit's offense is incredibly stacked and he's bound to benefit.

I would be comfortable with Furcal as my top SS. I think he is in for a big bounce back season.

Don't forget, though, Renteria will be moving from top of the lineup to batting 7th, according to most of the info I've seen. The move to the AL and Tigers will be offset, somewhat, by the shift in batting order.

Drew is the guy I'm targetting, Solid offense, came on strong 2nd half & playoffs ,,has the pedigree, still very young. Has all the upside in the world and a great value pick where he goes

I like Cabrera in the White Sox offense, he will be servicable

i think people are discounting theriot. he's more than likely going to be hitting 2nd is a fairly decent lineup, and can steal 40 bases or so. i wouldnt be surprised if he finishes the season ranked above the likes of furcal, renteria, young.
