If you remove the max inning you need to make it weekly moves or limit the number of moves.

I agree with Matthias post. ERA and WHIP get hit, but that is only 2 categories. For our head-to-head league we added Losses as a category and it has really evened it out.

We no longer have a max innings and no churning takes place because the scrubs you pick up often get losses.

I think leagues have a maximum innings rule for the same reason that they use a waiver wire, to make the game more about skill in choosing the best players rather than about luck and timeliness in picking up free agents. Just like the x day time limit on the waiver wire when a player is dropped to the free agent pool or is first placed into the free agent pool (such as minors who are called up) allows all players to see that that player has been added and gives them all an opportunity to use their skill in determining how much that player is worth and whether giving up their WW position is worth it. I believe that is where the skill in FBB comes from. Likewise, by keeping an innings limit, teams must decide how to effectively choose the best players, without it there will be a constant race to pick up free agents who have favorable match ups, the winner won't be the person who is "best" but rather who stays up late enough to pick up the next day's pitchers.
