As part of fantasysportspost.com's fantasy baseball draft kit, the authors of the site put together a list of the top 60 minor league fantasy baseball prospects. In building this list, they focused only on the prospects' fantasy potential. So defense only matters if it affects possible playing time or future at a difficult position (SS,C etc). The kit also includes an article focusing on the 2008 rookie class, those prospects that will have an impact this season. Here's an excerpt from the rookie article on Cubs catcher Geovany Soto.
1. Geovany Soto (CHC)
At 24, Soto burst onto the scene with a .353 BA and 26 HR’s in 110 PCL at-bats last year. From far off the fantasy map, Soto becomes an instant top 10 catcher. I’m not sure who or what flipped the switch for Soto, but the Cubs better make sure no one flips it back. Piniella has been supportive of Soto, and hinted Soto will be the starter. The same can’t be said for teammate Felix Pie. I’ll pass on VMart and company and take Soto late in all my leagues. Hopefully, he doesn’t go the way of former Cubs catcher Michael Barrett.
