Rate my team and my rival cousin's WHIR

Postby JoshDJays » Sun Feb 17, 2008 4:58 pm

Me and my cousin have had this rivalry since the dawn of time. Last year I was a fantasy rookie and won the championship while he missed the playoffs. How did we do this year? I think he might have me beat as I got nervous and panicked a bit during the draft. Any suggestions for me? Thanks!

12 team, h2h, 5x5, 21 roster spots, 40 roster moves max

My team

C J.R Towles
1B Adrian Gonzalez
2B Rickie Weeks
SS Carlos Guillen
3B Ryan Braun
OF Matt Holliday
OF Alex Rios
OF Matt Kemp
UTIL Aramis Ramirez
B Nate McLouth

SP Aaron Harang
SP Chris Young
RP Todd Jones
RP Brandon Lyon
P Matt Cain
P A.J. Burnett
P Dustin McGowan
B Oliver Perez
B Bronson Arroyo
B C.J. Wilson
B Rafael Betancourt

His team

C Russell Martin
1B Prince Fielder
2B Ian Kinsler
SS Troy Tulowitzki
3B Josh Fields
OF Curtis Granderson
OF Andruw Jones
OF Gary Matthews Jr.
UTIL Michael Cuddyer
B Aaron Hill
B Troy Glaus

SP Roy Halladay
SP Carlos Zambrano
RP Trevor Hoffman
RP Jason Isringhausen
P Kelvim Escobar
P Chien-Ming Wang
P Jeff Francis
B Gil Meche
B Tom Glavine
B Mark Buerhle

Update: I have helped my steals by trading Betancourt (who I got in the 20th round and was probably dropping anyway) for Rafael Furcal (drafted in the 7th round but he had another good SS option). Man those final year rankings from last year sure help in trades. I'll be very happy if this deal goes through as it gives me more steals and more positional flexibility.

Update: I am currently offering Adrian Gonzalez for Travis Hafner, Derekk Lee and Justin Morneau (seperately of course). Do you agree that any of the 3 would be an upgrade? How would you rank the 3 of them?

Your team is better. His offense is too weak to beat you most weeks. Your pitching is not nearly as good, but it is at least average to above average.

Some critiques - You have too many relievers in a non-holds league. I see that your trying to capitalize on a weak closer situation in Cleveland, but you can really wait on this. With Braun having the ability to play OF, your offense has an opening at the utility spot. I would recommend dropping Betancourt (or Wilson if he loses the closer role). Pick up another offensive player. Kemp can head to the bench and play as needed, and your offense suddenly becomes elite. Keep an eye on Towles, it is not a guarantee that he gets the starters role.

Don't misconstrue my opinions on your starting staff. I think it is probably around 5th in a 12 team league. What you lack in upper echelon starters, you make up for with high quality depth. I would consider packaging 2 pitchers up for a stud pitcher or an upgrade at another position. A pitcher plus Adrian gonzalez for a better 1b....something along those lines. These are all minor critques. I'm sure your very aware of how good your team is ;).

3 hitters on the wire... Ryan Theriot, Billy Butler, Jerry Owens

Should I pick up either of these? I need steals and I think Theriot would help.

thx for thoughts on mine

I think you have the better team great hitting without totally killing your pitching

I wouldnt bother with The Riot yet

keep your eyes peeled for a SB option as ST goes on

truthfully i don't see any value in keeping Tom Glavine (and I'm a Braves fan). I'd probably drop him for one of the 3 (I like Butler the best of those 3).

help with mine? viewtopic.php?t=322503
