12 man auction league suggestions

Postby Shawn Delgado » Tue Feb 17, 2004 12:36 pm

Some long time friends and I who have been doing standard baseball drafts for years wanted to try something new this year. We organized a 12 man league, and want to try an "auction" style draft this year. However, 5 of the owners now live out of state. For the past week we have been trying to figure out a reasonable way to work out the logistics, i.e. Everybody staying at home an connecting via the internet, the 7 local people getting together with one internet connection with the other 5 on the internet, every alternative we come up with seems like it will end up being a train wreck. Any suggestions or similar experiences? Thanks.

have everyone use MIRC or YAHOO Instant messanger and create a conference room. That is how we are doing out keeper league this year.

Everyone should be able to get online at 9 or 10 pm EST. Makes for a long night but what's more important:

We'll be using Yahoo Messenger for my league's draft this year. As we are using Yahoo to host our league, we all already have Yahoo IDs. It's also a pretty simple program to download and run, and you can use different colors and emoticons to enhance your trash talking.

Well, the keeper league I'm in started in 1992 in Atlanta, and has had a live draft in Atlanta every year since then. There are now 5 owners who live out of state that still travel (fly or drive) back late-March or early-April for the draft, and it works great. I'd suggest trying to keep a live draft, and get all your friends to visit the original city it started in that day for the draft. Nothing better than doing a live draft for an auction league.
Another Year, Another Championship. I'm 2 for 2.

We havew a long-standing 12 man auction league in Chicago. I now live in Florida so I fly in each year. Some have tried attending by speaker phone but it just does not work. I would assume that an internest connection would be worse, since someone has to enter data. Unless you are present you will miss something that could ruin your day. Tell the other teams to attend or replace them now. Don't go below 10 teams or it becomes too easy.
