Advice on my league settings please.

I play in a 10 team (H2H) Yahoo! league. My fellow owners asked me if I would add OPS this year to the league categories. I'm all for it but am wondering how that might skew the draft rankings by having one more offensive category then pitching category. If I add OPS, should I add something else too? 'Batting average against' perhaps to even things out? A different category? Or does it matter? Thanks and WHIR!

You definitely want equal weight given to pitching and hitting to avoid completely skewing draft values. You can do that by either adding another pitching category or weighting the pitching categories you do have (multiplying by 1.2 if you're going from 5x5 to 5x6, for example).

As far as what to add... well, there's categories that are good and categories that are bad but none are really good or bad for your league until you put them into context. You have to think about if you're creating any incentive for people to draft a certain way or play a certain way.

BAA is a decent category, but that will tilt the value of pitchers to relievers. Any ratio category (like K/BB) does it. And it's really easy to find middle relievers that are valuable with three ratio categories, which can get a bit annoying.

I like quality starts as a category. It makes starters more valuable, and it makes good pitchers who play for shit teams more valuable. It also takes some "luck" out of the game since wins are very arbitrary, but quality starters is a category that is predictable.

Yes you should balance out OPS, one of my favorite stats. QS is a good stat to do that with. I'm also a fan of Holds but I know a lot of fantasy players loath relievers.

Well, I wouldn't go endorsing any category until I knew what categories you're currently using. Is it std 5x5?

yeah my cats are standard yahoo w/ OPS and Quality Starts. 12 total.
