from mlb.com.....

The general manager's recent pursuit of free-agent first baseman Travis Lee has been well known. And reports have surfaced free-agent pitcher Greg Maddux has emerged as possibly another option for the starting rotation.

Cashman shot down the rumors involving Maddux, who shares his agent, Scott Boras, with Rodriguez.

"We are not involved with Greg Maddux," the GM said.

i do not want maddux, especially if it means trading contreras for a 2B. we can get along fine with a defensive guy manning the position until boone comes back. it makes no sense to take on another huge contract and a another 35+yr old pitcher.

i dont think contreras is going to montreal. he has a big contract, probably bigger than vidro's. MLB would never let the expos trade their best player without getting cheap youg talent in return.

Who was the "Pitcher to be named later" in the deal if it wasn't Contreras?

I thought that was the whole reasoning behind the Maddux rumor.

no way it we would have definately known if it was contreras. if that was going to be the case then i wouldve been totally against the trade. we gave them a choice of minor league pitching prospects.

Hmm..

I was thinking the only reason they havn't mentioned who it was yet was because Contreras is having Visa problems and they wanted to break the news to him in person.

So does anyone know who the mysterious pitcher is?

Sean Henn is rumored to be the Player to named later. he is minor league pitcher. there is a thread on this a little further down on the page.
