Who are the top prospects of the future?

Postby ReeferDave » Sun Feb 10, 2008 5:11 pm

Here's your chance to stake your claim on the next lesser known stud. Forget guys that show up on the top 100 list right now. List here who you think will be top 100 players or higher soon. Some little known gems that we will be raving about in a couple years.

I have three right now:

Ryan Royster TB OF
NIck Weglarz CLE OF
Tony Thomas 2b CHC

Who you got?

This is difficult because people have such different top 100's especially when you get below the top 50. One that I don't see a lot of is Jesus Montero.

From the Twins system, there are 2 prospects that were in low-A or rk ball that could start gaining attention in the next year or two. They're both a long ways from the majors and now are mostly toolsy. Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for.

Wilson Ramos - C - Could develop into a top catching prospect in the next year or two.

Deibenson Romero - 3B - Has all of the tools to develop into a very good 3B for the Twins.

I'm guessing that both of these guys are outside of the top-250 lists (if someone put out that list) and could easily bust, but they have the tools to be above average MLB'ers. I've left out 1st and 2nd round picks like Revere and Benson. The Twins also have alot of promising arms in the minors, but other than Guerra, none of them have shown front of the rotation potential. Hopefully someone breaks out this year.

Here's why I like Weglarz: The 19-year-old outfielder hit .276/.395/.497 for an OPS of .892 in the SAL. That’s very good considering the only players under 20 to have an OPS in the Sally League of .892 or higher in the last 15 years are: Adrian Beltre, Ian Stewart, Lastings Milledge, Vlad Guererro, Chipper Jones, Delmon Young and Kelly Johnson. That’s good company to be associated with.

I like Jordan Zimmerman and Nick Weglarz to be consensus top 100 guys next year.
