"For about the money it would cost them to re-sign David Ortiz and two potential Hall of Famers, Pedro Martinez and Garciaparra, they may be able to sign Eric Chavez (especially with A-Rod in The Stadium), Jose Vidro, Orlando Cabrera and Matt Morris. They don't think that way in Oakland or Minnesota, Florida or Atlanta. That's just the way it is."

From Peter Gammons' latest: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=1736367

Chavez, Vidro, Cabrera and Morris. Not to shabby.

You won't get Chavez. Billy is going to have him extended by opeing day. Chavez is a franchise player and the A's are NOT letting him slip away.

Dye's 11 million a year is about to run out to with that extra money we can easily resign Chavy. ;-D

I still think the Sox have a great team. I'm not worried. Sox fans should quit whining and realize that we have a great team; we should expect George to spend all the money he can. I'm OK with that.
I'm back. Sorta.

I'd rather have Ortiz, Pedro, and Nomar. You can argue about Ortiz and Nomar, but you don't let a dominant pitcher like Pedro just walk away.

gammons is almost never right. he has good baseball knowledge, but most of his trades/signings never happen. if they let nomar and pedro walk, sox fans will riot.

I think the sox have an excellent chance at resigning Nomar and I hope they do as he is a class act. Pedro on the other hand I think is gone. I could see pedro ending up on the marlins. But, I do not think he will mesh with Schilling this year. Just my POV.
