Twins signed first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz to a two-year, $7 million contract with an option for 2006.
Mientkiewicz will make $2.8 million this year and $3.75 million in 2005. Minnesota has a $3.75 million option for 2006 with a $450,000 buyout. If Mientkiewicz continues to hit as well as he did last year, maybe his defense makes him worth about $3.5 million per year. Since he was probably a little over his head and the Twins have Justin Morneau ready to replace him, this looks like a bad move by GM Terry Ryan. There just weren't any good reasons to give him a multiyear deal.
I agree, this move was uncalled for. I would be frustrated if Morneau was one of my keeper prospects.

Mientkiewicz is a JT Snow that can hit alittle bit better. I think he is a good player and I think he will be traded by the trade dead-line, probably to the Yankees after Giambi's knee falls off...
Fantasy sports are ruled by the 50-50-90 rule...
Anytime you have a 50/50 choice between two players, 90% of the time, you'll get it wrong
