signed Fransico Cordero re-signed Aaron Harang to a very nice deal re-signed Bronson Arroyo to a very managable contract traded Jeff Stevens for Brandon Phillips got Josh Hamilton for nothing traded Josh Hamilton for Edison Volquez
also hasn't traded away Bruce, Bailey, Votto, Cueto, Frazier, Stubbs, etc like a lot of GM's would
not sure why everyone has a problem with this guy
Kearns and Lopez are much better than what they got in return.
We'll have to wait and see what happens with Coco. I don't think you can say that it was a good signing or not. Hamilton/Volquez also needs to be weighed after a few seasons.
Granted he hasn't traded Dunn, Bruce, Bailey, Votto, Cueto, he has been itching to do so for a long time. Finally he hired Dusty Baker. Nuff said.

If you let this trade (Blanton for Cueto+Votto+?) go through I promise I will not slag off the St Louis Cardinals for the WHOLE months of April AND May. If this is a deal please give me no sign.
Cool.

Correct Same as Colletti has been itching to trade Andy LaRoche - another rumoured Blanton suitor. He will burn them deep if they trade him
By the way - thanks for merging and re-naming this thread whoever did it

I can possibly understand trading Bailey or Cueto for Blanton, but two of the big three is unbelievable. I don't understand why we trade Hamilton for insert name here and all of a sudden we need another starter. I really want to lock Wayne in a room with Rosie O'Donnell and Britney Spears until his good sense comes back and he realizes he is being crazy. He is killing me with these trade talks!
Signed,
Please someone take all of Wayne's pens so he can't sign anything
The Denver Post reports that the Athletics want Andre Ethier, Andy LaRoche and a prospect from the Dodgers in exchange for Joe Blanton. Billy Beane is really working the "best available arm" angle to drive up Blanton's price, but it's doubtful the Dodgers would give up both Ethier and LaRoche for him.

If Beane can flip Blanton into a top 20 prospect like LaRoche, Bailey, or Cueto, that's ridiculous.
i could see blanton for ethier, but not for laroche. the dodgers have held laroche for so long without trading him for even better arms than blanton. i dont think they would do it.

It would be nice if he actually had a legitimate shot at starting this year. 2007 was a joke, it was obvious that he wouldn't succeed on such a short leash. Nomar's decent at first and pretty awful at third and shouldn't be blocking Andy again.

I have to disagree with you there. .600 OPS doesn't play well at 1B or 3B (see Aurilia, Rich)
So Colletti is going to trade LaRoche because Nomar can play 3rd. To get Blanton. I am so glad I don't support the Dodgers anymore.

Isn't it seen as very very embarrassing to trade for someone back to your team (Ethier)? Or is that fantasy baseball only?
mlbtraderumors.com wrote:He also says the Reds are "pushing hard" for Blanton, which jives with the previous info. The Reds are still kind of shaky behind Aaron Harang and Bronson Arroyo.
Pushing hard? Now the Dodgers are in the picture for real the Reds offer could go up up up up up. This could be a really big haul.
These two GMs competing for Blanton reminds me of the Simpsons episode when Homer invites distant family members onto his front lawn, and then they put pots on their heads and charge into each other.
