I would talk to Beane about whatever he wanted.....pretend like I was really interested and close to making a deal with him.....and then go sign the guys he wanted to 5 year extensions.
^ Lopez and Kearns got bigger contracts, and what exactly have they done? ^
Say all you want about how bad that deal was, if the relievers didn't get hurt that deal would look really good for Cincinnati. Right now it just says that the Reds saved money, have better defense, and don't strike out as much.
Billy Beane seems to have the ability to view every other team's minor league system as a Wal Mart, where everything is much cheaper than it is elsewhere and if he can flip Joe Blanton for either Bailey or Cueto, it would be the equivalent of a Black Friday style discount.
LOL. If they do a trade like that for Blanton (who I don't get the love for) then not only can you sign that "Everyone else in the world" but you could add "and also anyone you might be able to pull out of Uranus."

No-one on this board would do this deal (because you guys are smart) - but would Krivsky?
Meh, awful GMs screw "good gms" upon occasion. dan duquette has made several amazing deals, but he is unable to find a job in MLB.

signed Fransico Cordero re-signed Aaron Harang to a very nice deal re-signed Bronson Arroyo to a very managable contract traded Jeff Stevens for Brandon Phillips got Josh Hamilton for nothing traded Josh Hamilton for Edison Volquez
also hasn't traded away Bruce, Bailey, Votto, Cueto, Frazier, Stubbs, etc like a lot of GM's would
There's talk that in continuing with the A's "youth movement", the A's & Reds are in discussion about a deal that would send Joe Blanton to the Reds in exchange for Homer Bailey and Joey Votto or Johnny Cuet.
As an A's fan eagerly anticipating the opening of the Fremont stadium and an influx of young talent, I am ecstatic about the possibility of acquiring Homer Bailey and even more surprised to see Votto mentioned in the deal.
If we get Bailey that would be amazing as he is regarded as one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. If Votto comes along that would be outstanding, but if a deal gets done I would expect a lesser name to go along with Bailey, which is who I think the A's are really targeting.
What are your opinions on this deal? With all the young talent coming in are you as excited about the future of the A's. I've come to the conclusion that we aren't going to be in contention until we get a new stadium, and this seems to be the perfect way to set everything up so we are ready for our new home.

not sure why everyone has a problem with this guy
i sorta agree. not to mention didnt trade away dunn...the washington deal was very questionable, granted felipe and kearns arent worth much, but more than what the reds got.
