I have been gobbing off on multiple threads (off-season rumors, any trade threads) about getting Reds prospects for Blanton - without any rumours/evidence to back it up. Just wishful thinking really. Well I came across this........................
mlbtraderumors.com wrote:Blanton May Be Traded
9:14pm: Fay suggests the A's would want Homer Bailey or Johnny Cueto, Joey Votto, and a third player for Blanton.
1:32pm: Paul Daugherty and John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer report that the Reds and Dodgers are talking to the A's about Blanton. Seems to be a disagreement about whether the Dodgers are in on this.
10:31am: Check out this new Ken Rosenthal video (hat tip to MetsBlog). The video is all about Joe Blanton.
* One Rosenthal source suggests a 50/50 chance Blanton is traded (presumably before the season starts). * Two teams are showing significant interest. Rosenthal believes the Reds are one, and the Twins or Rays could be another. He rules out the Dodgers, Yankees, Rockies, and Indians. The Reds have had preliminary discussions for Blanton already. How about the Phillies? They came calling in July. * Rosenthal notes that the bounty for Blanton will be less than that of Dan Haren, because Blanton is slightly more expensive and an inferior pitcher. * On January 14th, an A's source suggested to MLB.com's Jim Molony who expected Blanton to be the A's Opening Day starter.
Wow. Wouldn't that top trade suggestion be a rip-off? This is evidence if you say something you want often enough, you may get it.

I would rather have Cueto then Bailey.
Votto + Cueto + something small has been what I've always hoped for. Jay Bruce could give Uncle Billy some leverage as he could ask for Bruce (knowing that he won't get him) and then "back off" to Cueto and Votto.

I don't see the A's taking Votto when they pretty much have the same young player at 1B in Barton, and somewhat of a logjam at 1B/DH. I also don't see the Reds giving a guy like Votto up for Blanton.
That said, I love Votto and would love for the A's to have him.

Time to role play the part of Wayne Krivsky: I would have a hard time giving you Votto straight up for Blanton. Blanton is a league average pitcher. He might have some success in the great american ballpark, so I might give you Votto, but i would not trade Cueto or Bailey. If Bean asks for Bruce, i laugh and ask where he gets the good stuff. Maybe i am a nice guy and throw Juan Francisco in with Votto.
"I do not think baseball of today is any better than it was 30 years ago... I still think Radbourne is the greatest of the pitchers." John Sullivan 1914-Old athletes never change.

Votto can play OF, he's got to be better then Emil Brown. Another 6Y/$5 mil per deal and we're set

Saying Votto can play outfield is pretty much like saying I can play outfield from what I understand. The man's not even very good at first base.
I think this deal has a 20% of happening and if it does I see something like Francisco, Maloney + a third (maybe Sean Watson, Javier Valentin, Stubbs).
Personally, I'm up for any deal including prospects other than Cueto or Bruce. Solid #2 or #3 for three years

he's mearly an innings eater. he's not an anchor of a staff. he doesnt "K" much at all.
why would you trade a high cieling prospect like Bailey or even Cueto for a guy like that?
that would be funny if Blanton brought in more then Santana
Sometimes it is the negotiator and not the goods Don't forget this is Beane Vs Krivsky. (And possibly Vs Colletti ) Everyone remembers the famous Austin Kearns/Felipe Lopez deal. Will that deal have an uglier big brother?
No-one on this board would do this deal (because you guys are smart) - but would Krivsky?
