What type of numbers do you think Buchholz could contribute in the # 3 or 4 position. Say he got 160-180 IP.. 10 W/3.90 era/ 1.30 whip/ 135 K ??

I am going to make a preliminary projection of 4.00 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 145 Ks, and 12 wins, in 175 IP. As he ages i expect the ERA and strikeouts to both drop as they do with most young pitchers.

I would think his ERA will be around 3.80-4.25 with about 7 k9 and 1.20-1.35 WHIP. You know he will get hi share of Ws if given the chance.

Agreed....some growing pains but moderate success.

It's always good when your rivals have injuries. And with Wakefield's shoulder difficulties, the Red Sox rotation is looking a bit thin.

Is it really?

First there's Beckett then Dice-K, and so ends the stability (and they aren't without their own question marks). Can either Lester or Buchholz be expected to throw well over 150 IP this season? Wakefield, even when healthy, is a very mediocre pitcher at this point in his career. And who's the #6 starter? Tavarez?

Schilling's presence held it all together, he was their 2nd best starter last year.

I wouldn't be surprised if Boston made a move to get a pitcher before ST.
