Back on topic.....how much does this bump Buchholz' value? Would you be comfortable with him as a #3 or #4?

If this meant that I wouldn't have to hear him run his mouth anymore, I'd be glad.

But Schilling will always run his mouth.

I'd actually prefer that he keep pitching, because I always get a kick out of A-Rod taking him deep.

Not 3 yet. Definitely 4. Need to see how he deals with adversaries, face teams multiple times and teams have a full scouting report on him.

I hope the Sox are able to void the contract then take a flier on Freddy Garcia. Slide Clay into the rotation with Garcia or Wake (depending who goes to the pen if that signing happens) as emergency starters. Clay probably will not be able to go the entire season either so we would need another starter.

I doubt the Sox are counting on Clay for anymore than 180 IP no matter what happens, but if Schilling is hurt, and he definitely is going to be in the rotation to begin the season, obviously it increases his value. It's always risky to count on a rookie to be your #3 SP, but after that when your fantasy staff is usually interchangeable, I would grab a potential stud over a middle of the pack average starter.

How would they void his contract?

I imagine it would be something like this...

Voiding his contract is something the Sox have to look into. No solid reason was given.

From reading the article, I got the impression that the Sox were thinking about doing this (how I do not know)

They might be able to void it if it was determined that Schilling was withholding health information from them when he signed the contract. I'm not sure what grounds they have since I assume it is their responsibility to do a complete physical at the time of the contract.

It does make you wonder about why Schilling all of a sudden came back to the Red Sox and signed for a fairly reasonable contract when he seemed intent on exploring FA.

Amazing that the dude has a bum shoulder and isn't likely going to be able to go out of the game the way he wants to (although leaving the game as a World Series winner ain't half-bad) and yet people still cheer the fact he's hurt and hate on him :-°

Anyways, I'm curious to see if the Sox take a flier on Garcia or even Colon as has been mentioned or if they go another route and try to trade Coco again for a starter. Don't know where he'd fit or who needs a CF and has a SP available, maybe Coco and a prospect to Oakland for Blanton?
