how does your league handle call ups?

Our league has had a problem in the past with minor leaguers getting called up and figuring a fair way to claim them. The way we do it now is from the time the player acutally starts a game he is then put on waivers for three days then can be picked up or claimed through messaging the commish(lowest rank gets priority). Some how this system still caused confusion last year adn people left angry they didn't get Ryan Braun. Suggetions please.

Players should be on waivers as soon as they hit the database, IMO. If you do it manually, you could make them available when they are called up to MLB.

If someone wants to use their bench for potential breakouts, they should be able to do so. Those who are late to the party missed out.

Is there a way to have them go through waivers when they are brought up to the majors?

thats what we had tried to do. They get called up so as soon as they play their first inning they are considered on waivers. We allow minors to be drafted so the league setting has minors available all the time. At first the commish was going in and everytime sombody got called up he would put them on a team and then take him off so he would be on waivers. That got difficult after a while to keep up with all the players getting called up. The problems would come when someone would pick the player up before he was actually available or was not rightfully theirs to claim. I'm not sure how this became such a problem but it did. It seems simple, the player can't be picked up for 3 days thats that. We use TQ stats by the way if that helps

Maybe I am dense, but I don't understand the problem. If you can pick up minors all the time with your regular add/drop, what is the big deal when someone gets called up? Everyone has the same shot to add players.

Right but we aren't actually supposed to be able to pick up minors when ever we want. They can be drafted and sat on your bench with hopes of them getting called up. The only reason the are able to be picked up is because we have to have it set(per web site) that way so that we can carry minors on our bench. That was also a problem last year people would pick up a player if there was speculation of him being called up, that got squashed though. What would solve this problem is if the web site allowed us to make mo minors available after the draft but still be able to carry those drafted on our bench.
an example is i drafted Brandon Wood with my last pick in the draft hoping he would get called up. If he did i could start him immediatly. If didn't draft him he would get called up and then go to waivers(manually done by commish) then after 3 days be activated for who ever claimed him or put into free agency. I'm not sure there is a way to solve it. Currently we are talking about all minor call ups are available to be picked up on sunday only from previous week. sorry this is so confusing

*Our league has a weekly blind-bd auction. Each team gets 100 fantasy bucks to spend on free agents, including minor leaguers and recent call-ups...
*To avoid cherry-picking, a player must be called up 24 hours before our auction bids are processed by the system.
*Couple other notes: We play AL-Only 12 Team AOL-style Grandstand Fantasy Baseball.
*In addition to the weekly auction, we have a 36-hour window following the auction wherein currenly major league free agents can be signed instantly for a buck. Minor leaguers and fresh call-ups can only be acquired via the auction to avoid one team benefitting beacuse they happend to be online at the right time.
*We currently play our head-head m-f/thu-sun 3 game series on FanStar, one of the very few true custom game providers.

So you can carry minors, but only those drafted.

The only way to fill in the blanks there is to have your commissioner figure out how to do it manually. Everyone, then, has to agree to cooperate.

Maybe set one day/week when callups are 'checked'. The commish would need to start waivers for those players on that day each week. Any adds before the day are nullified. Maybe an offending owner loses his waiver priority for that week.

The easiest solutions would be either just allow minors in the add/drop process or switch to a site that handles your rules better.
