First baseman Sean Casey has signed a one-year, $700,000 contract with the Boston Red Sox, according to ESPN’s Peter Gammons.

Casey hit. 296 in 143 games last season with Detroit. He is a career .301 hitter in 11 major league seasons

don't be crazy. The last thing the Red Sox have to worry about is paying Kevin Youkilis. Sean Casey is nothing more than an insurance option who will be a pinch hitter. He won't take any AB's away from Youkilis.

No worries about Youk. Casey will be nothing more than a back-up who gets the occasional start against lefties, giving Youk a spell. Not a bad back-up to have though, and like h0rt said, at a tremendous price.

However, with Big Papi already on the team, and now Casey, this dramatically decreases the team's overall 40 speed. Let's just say those two aren't going to be winning any races lately
