When is this guy going to finally break out and be a Cy Young contender? WIll he ever? He has the stuff, but it seems that he always ends up being a 2nd tier to 3rd tier starting pitcher.

The guy's only 21, give him a break. He has plenty of time to mature and become a Cy Young-caliber pitcher.

I was just about to say. Seriously, he's only 21. He's got pretty great stuff and he's still very young. Sooner or later you should see the potential come out.
true true true, he is only 21, seems older. I'm just wondering if he has anything mental going on, cause he looked so dominant early on last year, and then he never seemed to look that dominant again, and i'm not just talking about throwing that 1 hitter. I was talking about the first month of the season, i just expected him to be a top 5 SP after that first month and now i dont know what to expect.

He left in his third start of the year with tightness in his pitching elbow, and after that it seemed like he was a little tentative about throwing breaking balls. Then again, it could have also been the Mariners trying to protect his arm; I think I read somewhere that he was trying to learn a weaker curve that would cause less stress on his arm.

He just became old enough to buy a beer last year. Most guys 22, are still in AA. Just as a comparision, Ryan and Clemens were in the minors at ages 19-20. Clemens broke out at 23, Ryan 25. Give the kid a chance.
