my buddy (big white sox fan) seems to think he has a lot of potential, but I don't see him on any lists or anything

does anyone know anything about him other than he is 26 and from Cuba, supposedly he is a homerun hitter...?

Word is that he is behind both Richar and Uribe for a shot at 2B. I bet he'll make some appearances, but I see his fantasy value this year--at least for the first half--as very limited.

Last year on an interview with Mariners Radio Yuniesky Betancourt, who played with and against Alexei in Cuba, said that Alexei was going to be a 5-tool player in MLB. I'm not completely sure about the assessment, but Yuni has more knowledge on him than anyone I know.

I look for him to start in AA and advance to the majors in a super-utility role by mid season. In Dynasty baseball I would certainly take a shot at him, and if he does surprise by winning the 2B job in Spring Training, I would put him around 12 in the fantasy ranks.

He is supposedly starting at Triple-A Charlotte. He led the Cuban league in home runs last year with 20 last year, but I'm not sure that says a lot. I remember reading that the Cuban league is equivalent to High-A ball.

Here is Ramirez hitting a "cuadrangular".
