ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The St. Louis Cardinals signed utility player John Mabry and left-handed pitcher Doug Creek to minor-league contracts Saturday.
The 33-year-old Mabry hit .212 with three homers and 16 RBI in 64 games for Seattle last season. He was on the disabled list from May 28-June 19 because of an injured right shoulder.
Mabry has a .269 career average with 69 homers and 355 RBI in 988 games with St. Louis, Seattle, San Diego, Florida, Philadelphia and Oakland.
Creek, who turns 35 next month, had no decisions and a 3.29 ERA in 13 2/3 innings and 21 games for Toronto last season before his season. He is 7-14 with a 5.19 ERA over eight seasons with St. Louis, San Francisco, Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay and Toronto.
It has to be like 3 years now that Mabry goes to Spring Training and the Cards trade him.
