See, the problem I have with B.J. Ryan now is that I don't trust the Blue Jays to be honest about any of their players anymore. So when they say it's no big deal, do they really mean it's no big deal or do they mean he needs surgery like they did with last year's 'no big deal' comments?

I doubt he needs surgery again.

The problem is that they're rushing him. The standard 12-month recovery time is just for full functionality, not even recovering to being as good as you used to be (that's supposed to take 16-24 months max.). And yet here they are, pitching him in ST about 1.5 months before he hits that 12 month date.

It's stupid. They never should have pretended he'd be ready for opening day, it's just medically abnormal. Now if they push him too hard, they really might have a serious setback rather than minor aches and whatnot (which is what I think is happening to him right now).

In any case, if you draft BJ make sure to get Accardo 2-3 rounds later.

I've met Russ Ortiz in a baseball camp a month ago, who had Tommy John last august, and he looked like he had full functionality. He was lightly throwing on flat ground, and he looked oke.
Only 6 month removed from surgery.
