Oswalt a sleeper?

It seems like everyone and their mother is forgetting about Roy Oswalt when creating a top 10 SP list.

Roy was unhitable in his first 2 major league season.

Roy was unhitable when he pitched with a hurt groin in 2003.

Why is Oswalt a sleeper?

1. He is still only 26 and his best years are ahead of him

2. Pettitte & Clemens take off the pressure of carrying the stros staff

3. His career record of 43-17 is eye popping.

4. Career 8.25 K/9

5. Career 2.92 ERA & Career 1.14 WHIP

6. great bullpen & offense behind him

At this time last year Oswalt was a preseason top 7 pick. Many believed him to be the heir to the NL pitching crown after RJ. It seems like I have heard very little about Oswalt lately. I see no reason why Oswalt shouldn't be a preseason top 10 and I see no reason why he can't finish 2004 in the top 5 or with a Cy Young title.

After thinking about Oswalt today after I had ranked him #10 as I too have sord of forgotten about him I realised he should be taken before Wood b/c even though Wood will strike out more Oswalt is better in every other category.

is very possible and he may be capable of even better.

OK so Oswalt isnt a sleeper but if a sleeper means outperforming your draft position and pre season expectations then Oswalt seems like it. I think he is poised for a monster year.

I am a little worried about his groin injury....but still...I would not argue if he ended up at 2 or 3 on my staff....

The kid is indeed golden I have seen him in person and he can flat out pitch. He is very entertaining to watch because of the motion and I truly believe this guy is tops in the NL and may take the 2004 Cy.

I believe if he can stay healthy this year he again will be dominant as he was 2 yrs ago.

maybe he already took that into account

last year the guy was a late 2nd rounder in alot of drafts, so he hardly qualifies as a sleeper. i have him just outside my top 10. ve got him at # 12 behind mussina and zito. overall, he is a good # 2 starter with # 1 stats if he stays healthy all year.
