Pujols elbow injury..Hope it stays well!

Postby kemper5 » Tue Jan 22, 2008 10:46 am

Pujols admitted he was very close to undergoing an elbow operation after last season, but opted against it when he learned how long it would shelve him. He says his hamstring and calf injuries have healed, but Pujols did concede that should the elbow woes flare up again, he won't play through pain again like he did in 2007.

He talked everything at the Cards Winter Warm up this last weekend about the false Roids scandal that his name came up in. He went on to discuss his elbow injury.

This report is 100% true. Like Kemper said, it is from the winter warmup. They said he decided against off-season surgery this off-season because it would have knocked him out of a substantial portion, if not all, or 2008. He said he dealt with it the whole second half of last season and if it happens again he will probably opt for the surgery. Myself, as a Cardinals fan, would really think if he was going to miss a good portion of the season, 2008 would be the time.....since Carp and Mulder are missing huge chunks and we have a really young outfield that just needs experience. We also have a question mark with Clement, Reyes, and still no real answers in the middle-infield. However, as a fantasy owner of him in a keeper league and really gunning to win this year, it will REALLY hurt.

Do you think I could talk him into playing through it because my FANTASY team is in contention, even if the Cardinals aren't?

I heard on the radio that it could keep him out for up to 1 year. He has had this elbow issue when he was playing LF for the birds. he pretty much sucked it up in previous years due to the Cards being in the playoff picture. If the Cards are bad this year (it does not look too good), then he will not have much to play for.

This is a real issue. He has fought this issue for several years. Like the post ealier, Pujols has had this issue even in the earlier years when he played outfield. At that time it was so bad that he couldnt throw, Renteria had to run out twice as far and get the ball from Pujols. I would say an Aug 1st shutdown would be a very real possiblity.

I know there is another post on Pujols in the the leftover section, but it has to throw up a little bit of a red flag doesn't it?

I do think some will be scared off a bit by the news & Pujols falls to mid-late round 1. Someone could get a heck of a deal or screw themselves big time.
