I wouldn't give any pitcher that right now. The market has actually come down and may continue
You sure about that.
12 million just a month ago for this right here.
202 innings pitched, 4.19 ERA, 1.31 Whip, 89 Ks, and a blockbuster 92 pitches per outing.
That is one Mr. Carlos Silva who is nothing better then a #4/5 starter at best.
Yes, but I think that was the Mariners being dumb. You see the struggles going on with Santana and I think there has been some restraint.
Willis got a 3 year 29 million deal and he is better than Silva

You can't compare Willis to Silva, because Willis has never been on the open market. The Tigers did the same to Willis as we are doing with Shields. Buying out a year or two of free agency ahead of time to give the team some support and a definite arm in the rotation.

I like it, what do you guys think about it?
I understand the point of it, but he just better pitch like 07 for several more years. One of the only downfalls of a deal like this is case in point Rocco's contract from a few years back. Rocco is still at a fair price, but no chance he makes what he is making this year if we had to go to arbitration with him this offseason. So in a sense we have overpaid for Baldelli's services the last 2 years. He is of course still talented to play well enough for us to make money off his deal, but he has to put the hamstrings in his back pocket and play ball.
