Anyone have any recommendations? My work is picking up the tab for the phone/service so I don't have to go super budget by any means. The trend around my office is BlackBerry, but I'm open to other things. My boss has the Pearl and loves it, and another one of my friends has one as well and does great with it. In the reviews, one thing people had trouble with in using the Pearl was that there are two letters to a key so it's different than the QWERTY keyboard. Considering I've never had a "smartphone" before I believe this wouldn't be an issue for me since whatever I go with is going to be new...
Yeah yeah, I knew the iPhone would come up. I don't have AT&T (plus I hate them with a passion from the last time I was their customer) so that's a no go unless they've opened them up to other carriers, but I haven't heard anything about that.
What service provider are you going to use or is that completely open as well? I'm still using the same Pocket PC (ppc-6700) I've had for a few years now. I don't really talk on the phone much unless I'm travelling and I'm not real big on text messages. But since I have to carry a phone around I like one that I can do basically all the same things on as I do with my laptop. It works great as my phone, MP3 player, mobile workstation, NES emulator, etc.
My wife just upgraded through Sprint to the Centro so I got to mess around with it for awhile. Its not too bad, although I've never been a real big fan of the Palm OS it seems like it has gotten much more user friendly over the years.
Well I'm currently under contract with Sprint, and I'm not sure if I can get out of it or not. My wife and I are under the same plan so I could potentially remove a line and keep the contract intact and at the same time move my number to a different provider. I'm really not sure if that's even possible but it is a potential options. Assuming I was staying with Sprint, then the best reviewed devices (courtesy of CNET) were the Blackberry Pearl and the Palm Centro you just posted.

Maybe I should said Non-iPhone Smartphones.
Actually several people who switched over to ATT have said that they are so much better now which was surprising to me since I used to hate them with a passion as well. Probably because they lost a ton of customers in the past.
I have an LG ENV with Verizon and it is a very good phone. 2 MP camera is pretty cool as I have a decent camera on me all the time. Mobile web sucks hard but I can get essential info that I need like directions, email, etc.

I'm getting a Pearl tomorrow morning. I hear good feedback from friends on it, CNET likes it, and it can easliy fit into a front pocket. Unless the sales demo i see tomorrow scares me off, its a done deal. I'm a mostly happy VZ customer.
Well I picked up the Blackberry Curve today. In fact, I'm posting from it right now! Let's just say that it's not terribly easy to browse the Cafe, but I suppose it works in a pinch.
