So I got a new Mariners New Era cap. I hate the boxy look and much prefer my hats broken in. Anyway, in the past I've always just used a spray bottle to get them wet and worn them around the house to (in time) get them to fit right. However, I figured this would be a good place to check and see if anyone has any tips and tricks that they've used to break in hats in the past.
I like the bill of my cap curled, so I've done the trick where you put it in a coffee cup overnight. You may have to use a rubber band to keep it in there.
Other than that it's just a matter of wearing them until they get comfy.

Yeah I curl mine too... I just want a fast way to rid myself of the boxhead look.
cut out the support mesh. best done with those small nail-clipping scissors. its stuck to the inside of the fabric, so it can be a tedious process, but your box-head will disappear 100%.
Play frisbee with it around the house for a day. Try to land it on the newel of your stairwell (if you have such a thing), or try to land it in your chair from across the living room/kitchen. The flip/flop motion of throwing it around should help break down the stiff fibers.
Is it wool or that new synthetic material MLB is using?
Anyway, I won. I sprayed it all down with water, used a pony tail holder to hold the bill curled up and another around the scrunched up top of the cap. Then I threw it in the dryer for about half an hour. Worked like a charm. Pimp 1, New Era 0.
I wear mine into the shower, or soak it in warm water, then wear it until it dries. It's uncomfortable, but by the time it dries, it'll form to your head. Also, depending on how broken in you're talking, sometimes I'll take a cheese grater to the hat in certain places.
