College Players Draftable for Dynasty Leagues

Postby RugbyD » Thu Dec 27, 2007 2:30 pm

So I just joined a dynasty league that allows you to draft anybody. Its easy to pick up a Baseball America and get up to speed on minor leaguers, but college ball is tougher. My question: Are there any current college players worth drafting over 'draftable' minor league players? We draft to fill a 40-man roster and typically each team will have 2-6 non-MLB players on their final 25-man roster. Thanks

Alvarez and Smoak are the only two guys I'd consider over if a typical team only has 2-6 non-MLB guys.

I agree. Only Alvarez and Smoak. MAYBE Alonso, but probably only Alvarez and Smoak.
Is pushing for President Obama to pass a law requiring all citizens to be Chicago White Sox fans and make October 1st "White Sox Day" where we all dress as our favorite player. It maybe socialist, but I don't care.

Brett Wallace (ASU) can rake and although you might not draft him above some of the current "draftable" MiLB prospects. He is someone to keep an eye on. ;-D

40 man roster isn't big enough to draft a college player that can help years from now. Stick with MLB, MiLB players.

^ Pedro Alvarez would be a top ten prospect right now if he were eligible.

I agree. Alvarez is going to be a lot of fun to watch. Smoak too. And I think Matusz should be a good one as well. Other than Alvarez and possibly Smoak, though, I would concentrate my efforts on guys that might get the call sooner rather than later. A lot of managers fall in love with prospects who get called up and can be traded for more than they are worth.

Alvarez is just as talented as anybody in the minor league top 10 right now, and could very well be in the majors just as quick. If the Rays take him with the #1 pick like they should, they have a huge hole at first that needs covering and Alvarez could definitely handle it, probably as soon as opening day of 2010.
