Gary Sheffield last season was off to an amazing tear until he got hurt and messed up his shoulder. At the end of the day, his stats were still pretty solid, except for the rapidly declining average which you (and I personally) could blame on his injury. 25 HRs / 22 SBs is nothing to sneeze at.

But more importantly, I'm more or less curious about how he's progressing right now. Did his surgery go through well? Age is an obvious concern, he's turning 39 and do you think it's possible he might've lost his rapid bat speed? Do people see him as a viable keeper in leagues that keep about 6-7?

Thanks. On the Big Board, he's still ranked pretty highly at 39. Does he also lose his 1B status?

I think he will be a good value pick this year in the 70-90 range (I picked him at 77 last night in a mock draft). He seems to be a forgotten guy in the draft. He definitely lost his 1B status (0 games last year) and might have lost his OF status depending on league settings (14G's, 12 GS last year). He's a borderline keeper in a 7 keeper league. Depends on the team.

I don't have an update on his health though.

On the Big Board (Funston) I believe he said he would be ready by Opening Day.

Sheff's an interesting call going into next year. They guy was on an absoloute tear for the first half of last year (Top 15 fantasy player) Until his shoulder started playing up.

I think many will be scared of him next year due to injury/age etc. but I can see him having a solid season in that STACKED Tiger lineup.

With the team that will be around him Sheffield is a real good risk to take in the 6-7th rounds. He has had similar surgery and recovered before and could put up to 20 numbers. I risk a 6th rounder, maybe even a 5th depending on how good I feel about the first 4 rounds.
