To be honest, I play because I think fantasy baseball allows me to keep myself interested in major league baseball all season. It's not that I don't like baseball, or don't enjoy watching it, but without fantasy baseball I wouldn't pay nearly the attention to MLB that I do while playing it.
I had some things come up and couldn't play fantasy football this year, and I found I really didn't miss it. I could still watch NFL games passionately and enjoy the game, without all the numbers, stats, and fantasy implications. I don't know if I'll ever play fantasy football again, actually, but I'll always like to watch the NFL.
But for baseball, I just don't know if I could stay interested in other teams around the league, besides the Cardinals, without fantasy baseball. If I weren't playing, I'd catch some games here and there and see what was going on, but it wouldn't be as fun for me.
