Carlos Silva. For almost $50M. Un-freaking-believable. Bavasi is trying to save his job by "winning this year" and in the process he is destroying the organization for years to come. I can only hope he follows this up by trading Adam Jones, Jeff Clement, and Brandon Morrow for Mike Hampton, Jose Contreras, or Matt Morris.
The Mets are the unfortunate frontrunners to get Kyle Lohse and he'll probably receive like 4 years, 36 million. For that money, I'm much rather go and trade for Willis but too late now.
Teams need to stop paying these back of the rotation scrubs 10-12 million a year just because they don't get hurt.
LOL! 50 mil!!! im a big twins fan and live in mn and i didn't even hear about this? i guess thats how bad he is, but yeah you guys on the west coast can have him for free if ya want!!!!!!!!!! although he did do well in the last game the year before last year that clinched the division the day the tigers lost

well a front of the rotation starter is in the 20+ range now... Santana will be in the high 20s... its just baseball salaries in general...
Meh, Javier Vazquez signed for 3 years, 34.5 million last spring after coming off a string of disappointing years that still were better than all but 1 one of Silva's years, plus he was excellent in Montreal.
I don't like the signing, but that seems to be the going rate for guys like Silva. I can't fault the move too much, but I would have gone in a different direction.
Silva will be ok in Seattle. His numbers are better than everybody they have other than Felix. His salary won't seem outrageous in a couple years if the MLB doesn't do anything about it. It's not the fact that Silva is getting that money it's the fact that that's the money it takes to get a pitcher like Silva.

Man it's a terrible time to be a Mariner fan.
Haw haw. Let's race to 70 wins , I bet that Oakland beats you there. Although at least we're rebuilding and our payroll is only cost 20 cents. Do you think Bavasi + Colletti + Sabean get together for a barbecue? Steve Phillips shows up when he's in the area.
