Ricky Nolasco - burnt out already?

Postby AussieDodger » Tue Dec 18, 2007 6:56 pm

After that magic year in AA at age 22:
161.2 innings , 13 HR , 46 Walks ,173 Strike outs.
Looking at his IP at a young age , was this too much for a young arm?

Age 20 - 149 A+
Age 21 - 147.2 AA and AAA
Age 22 - 161.2 AA

Looking at how he went in 2007 (54 not very good innings broken by arm/elbow DL trips) I'm thinking yes.

I think he might have a date with a surgeon before he gets back into the rotation. Just a gut feeling. :-C

I think the most telling number may be from his age 19 season. Unless I'm looking at incomplete data, he threw just 90 innings that season. The total innings from the three seasons mentioned in the first post don't jump out at me, but that 60 inning increase sure does.

I don't think that is overuse at all but I do seem to recall he's played winter ball as well during that period so if that is true then that could be a factor.
