KOBAYASHI..cheap saves??

Postby talk show host » Fri Dec 14, 2007 6:06 pm

In a deep Roto style format Indian reliever Kobayashi may be a cheap source for saves...Borowski is #1 closer of course and most of us believe Betancourt may be # 2 However, in Japan they have a prestigious GOLDEN PLAYER CLUB (Melkykai) for closers with 250 saves Kobayashi has 227 saves and with many teams trying to sign him, it wouldnt surprise me if Cleveland promised him a shot to get 23 saves SOMEWHERE (not all next yr) down the road.. Just..A player to know about Lenny

You would think if they were going to switch closers they'd of done it last year, but certainly something has to change for Borowski, either he lowers his ERA and WHIP or his save efficiency is going to head south. I just don't see him continuing to covert saves a a reliable rate with that kind of WHIP and ERA, even with the stark difference in performance under save situations compared to non-save situations, I don't see that as a trend that someone can keep up.

Cleveland fan here... Borowski's enormous ERA is a bit deceiving. He was incredibly terrible coming into non-save situation games last year. In three such games last year he gave up 14 ER in 1 1/3 innings. Tough for a reliever's ERA to recover from those outings considering the limited number of IP. Take away those three games and his ERA would have been a respectable 3.03.

Of course, those bad outings happened, and you can't take them away. But you can bet the Tribe FO is focusing on that 3.03, 45 saves and his 85% save percentage.

My point is that JoBo will probably have a longer leash than most expect. If he fails I am assuming Betancourt moves into the closer role first and then Kobayashi next. So don't expect a lot from the hot dog man this year (unless there are injuries of course).

I am onlu saying Kobayashi may be considered for 10 saves IF when given opportunity he suceeds early on I am only saying this to read between the lines of him sighning with Cleve and the importance of being in the Golden Players Club( 250 saves) I have never seen him pitch
