So JP was bluffing all along about keeping Josh Towers....I figured as much. After it all, I am a bit sad to see him go. He had the great season for the Jays in '05, and he's really quite a decent #5 starter (just not enough to warrant what we'd have to pay him with our current depth there). In the NL, if he signs there, I bet he'll have some success.
I see an eventual Matt Clement signing for the Jays in the near future.
Towers posted a 6.50ERA last two years, I don't see how the Jays even thought about paying him $5.2M for another year. Otsuka, who has been pretty awesome, was non-tendered by the Rangers who didn't want to risk $4M on him.
There are some interesting names on that list. And when did the Padres become the new Cubs? I think each one of the names on the list have been linked to the Padres.
Pirates were discussing a trade with the Tigers for Durbin, so I wouldn't be shocked if they picked up him. I would like to see them go after Wise too.
BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox did not tender a contract to reliever Brendan Donnelly on Wednesday, hours before he was named Thursday in the Mitchell report about the illegal use of performance-enhancing substances in baseball.
The move, which makes him a free agent, was announced in an e-mail sent at 12:03 a.m. EST Thursday. The Mitchell report was released at 2 p.m.
"The club had no idea about names prior to release of this report," Red Sox spokesman John Blake said. "We didn't get anything until Mitchell released it at 2 o'clock. So there's no way that anybody had any inkling that Donnelly would be mentioned in that report."
The Red Sox are trying to cover themselves, already. I am sure ACS is already reading way too much into the decision to let Donnelly go.
"I do not think baseball of today is any better than it was 30 years ago... I still think Radbourne is the greatest of the pitchers." John Sullivan 1914-Old athletes never change.
Otsuka is a surprise to me. I'd love to see the Yanks take a chance on him and/or Prior. Both have great upside and the downside is only money (and not a ton of it either)
