wouldn't mind seeing the astros take a chance with Prior (assuming it's not too much $$$) and possibly take a flier on Hendrickson as well. They need some help what can I say?
Cubs non-tendered RHP Mark Prior. Unless they were given a chance to keep him for 2009, the Cubs didn't want to gamble another $3.5 million or so on Prior's health. He's likely to miss at least the first two or three months of 2008 as he continues his recovery from shoulder surgery. It's possible he'll join the Padres, who attempted to trade for him earlier this month, but it's been reported that they've soured on him after getting a look at his medical records.
They soured on him after looking at his medical records????
It's Mark Friggin Prior! Who did they think they were talking about?
I can see the San Diego team official opening the Prior file...
"Good God! This Mark Prior's been injured repeatedly! It's been how long since he's been healthy?? Well, I've definitely soured on him now."

Is it just me?
LMAO. Obviously theres more than just knowing he has an injury history, but it's still funny.

I agree. Our 3-5 is brutal (Backe, Williams, Sampson). Prior would be nice once he's ready to go (June/July?). If Ed Wade is serious about going for it all this year he still needs to address the rotation. He's "taken care of" the lineup and bullpen already, now it's time to shore up the staff. There are still a few options out there that I like that will probably only fetch short term contracts (Colon, Garcia, Clement, Jennings).

Hold on. The Cubs spend money left, right and sideways the last two years and they didn't want to give Prior $3.5 million? They gave Wood over $4 million but take a hard stance with Prior?

Yeah, how many chances have they taken? I guess with Wood they're in a better situation to give him the chance to close. They're going to look really stupid if Prior puts together a full season...or even 3/4 of a season.
