It was probably a slight bid for whatever the Giants or Padres (which surprised me since they losing Bradley, lost out on Jones and probably won't resign Cameron.) Anyways, I think it's hard to gripe about FA prices lately due to the lack of talent. It's only 4 years, so I'm okay with this deal.

As opposed to 3 years at 12 million per for Jose Guillen? Or 5 years and 18 million per for Torii Hunter? C'mon, this is market value for a middle of the road corner OF.
.280/.345/.450 for Fukudome this year with 40 doubles and 18-22 HRs.

I don't believe the surgery was going to hamper him too much. Not to mention Japanese players have a pretty strong work regimen to get themselves back into playing shape.
Unproven? Are we still devaluing what a player does in Japan? He was one of the best hitters over there and while it will take a little adjustment to the MLB parks, if he has the talent and ability at the plate I think he'll be fine. Either way it'll be a nice change over Jacque Jones.
Is this just sour grapes over the Padres not getting him?

Pretty good signing, think he's worth the 1st WW pick up in a dynasty league?
His name does make me chuckle though!

Thanks chipper!!!!

This is the reason that makes this a good deal for the Cubs. We need OBP anyway we can get it.

I am sick and tired of teams thinks that they can get another Ichrio, I mean common guys there is only 1 Ichrio in Japan. There is no reason to pay 12 mils a year for this guy.
Lastly, Go Ron Paul!!

The Sox would like him back

Right! I hadn't even considered who he was replacing. Jones is one thing, because he has some sreious flaws in his game, but I think chances are that Murton and Fukudome are pretty comparable. Overpaying to fill a need is one thing, but overpaying to move sideways is a recipe... for another century without a WS.
