Certainly a deep sleeper. He didn't make the big top 100 lists (BA or BP), nor top 50 on any other lists. He was a C+ prospect on Sickel's site last year (maybe top 200). However, he did make it to number three on BA's top 10
pirates prospects this year, as well as the best hitter for average, power, and strike zone judgment.
His numbers last year are intriguing:
- Code: Select all
League Level Age AB HR AVG OBP SLG BB/K PA/K PA/BB XBH%
Carolina A+ 24 75 11 0.347 0.412 0.867 0.62 6.4 10.4 62%
Eastern AA 24 290 14 0.334 0.400 0.586 0.73 7.2 9.8 44%
Intn'l AAA 24 122 6 0.320 0.366 0.557 0.50 10.7 21.3 41%
He was a little old in A ball, about average in AA, and maybe a little young in AAA. What's really impressive is his K rate actually improved over the levels. Still, he is blocked by LaRoche who is 29. The pirates played him at RF. Can't say I have really heard a lot about that guy.
Deep, deep sleeper (talking 15 team leagues/NFBC).
In my fridge: Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS), Central Waters Peruvian Morning, Bell's Batch 10,000, Dale's Pale Ale, Capital Brewery Amber, New Glarus Moon Man, and Guinness.
