Minor move, except when you consider that the Brewers still have a closer opening. So, from a fantasy perspective, this is worth noting.
Obviously Torres was pretty poor last year, but I think injuries played a pretty big part in that. From '04-'06 he was pretty darn good.
I think Pittsburgh sold low here, because the return (Mariano Salas, Kevin Roberts)is a who's-who of middle relief fringe prospects (neither make the brewerfan.net list of top 50 Brewer prospects (http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewPower50.do).
So, a low risk deal for Milwaukee (Torres is signed to a deal through '08 with an '09 club option), and a potential closer option (wouldn't be my first choice, but we'll see).
Honestly though, I don't know what more the Pirates would get for Torres. I mean, he's 100 years old and he was not good last year. He's been worked like a dog over the past 3-4 years too.
They should've called the Reds, I guess...seen if Krivsky would have given up Hamilton for Torres.
I hope they end up getting a better deal when they trade Marte.

You're right, Krivsky might have been the better target.
And you're also correct in stating that they probably wouldn't have gotten much more for him, now anyways. I think they might have been better off hoping he had a nice, bounceback half-season and then pawn him off to a contender at the trade deadline.
7.6 k/9 and 2.9 BB/9, 47.8% GBs is not terrible and that is what he put up in 2007. His HR/FB spiked for some reason(elbow problems?) and his LOB% was bad compared to normal. He is probably the Brewers 2nd or 3rd best RP now after Riske and Shouse. He makes a pretty decent sleeper for saves next year I'd imagine.

Nothing factual to support this, but I think there have been some concerns about Torres since he hurt his arm last year.
As for Torres, I think he's in the mix for now but he seems a better fit as a set up man.Brewers have inquired about some closers(Chad Cordero & Huston Street) but the asking price was too high.Good deal, but I'd thought they'd make a play for guys like Gagne,Dotel or Fuentes. Are any of these guys a possibility?
How a team can sell so low is beyond me. Keep him a couple of months into the season and they could easily get twice what they got now. Another example of why the Pirates are the Pirates.
I like Torres next year to vulture some saves, but nothing I would spend much to get. 5 Saves is about where I'd have him projected. He is a workhorse, but the workload is a little scary.
