There was not much mention of Johnson in the 2B thread other than that people seem to think that he is a marginal top 10 2B. do we expect any improvement on his '07 numbers? I have not followed him closely, but looking at his minors numbers it seems reasonable to think that he could become a 20 HR guy. Couple this with a .280 BA and the #1 or #2 spot in a strong Braves line-up and it is tough to see how he will not perform well into the top 10. .280/18/10 with a bunch of Rs seems to be a good baseline assumption, and it could be better than this. RBIs will be a hole based on where he is batting.
Am I wrong here? Is he still flying under the radar a little?
You are not out to Lunch on this, I think he is a solid find at 2B, (which is not a deep position) I rolled with him last season, and he helped me to a second place finish. I like his balance of numbers in that Braves Lineup. One thing to ponder, the Braves might move him back to the Outfield, (former position) if they can't find a replacement for Andruw Jones, Francoeur could play Center Field.
Kelly Johnson is solid enough. To me he's one of those guys who you draft if you wait to long on your sleeper second basemen. I woudln't target him because there's not much behind him IMO. I personally think that there is plenty of depth at 2B. I think SS is where you see the huge drop-offs. But I suppose that's for another thread.

I have him rated over: Ian Kinsler Howie Kendrick Dustin Pedroia Jeff Kent Placido Polanco Rickie Weeks Aaron Hill
I'd take him over most of those guys, but certainly not Kinsler or Weeks who both have higher upside than that without a doubt and all 3 of them have plenty of risk as it is not a sure thing that Johnson is healthy and puts up those numbers.
He's a fairly solid hitter, but I had to drop him off my team last year because Bobby Cox started to platoon him sometime after the All-Star Break. If the Manager isn't sold enough on the guy to give him a full-time gig, I'm not sure how much I can be sold on him.
If he comes into ST guaranteed of a full-time role then I might draft him somewhere after the Top 10 though. I don't have the stats in front of me but I think he's got a much higher BA against lefties, which was part of the reason for the platoon.
KJ's got a great batting eye, with 79 BBs last year and a .375 OBP. He's even more valuable in an OBP league.
I am also a little worried about the managerial decisions. Still, even with the platooning he got 600+ PAs last year. With Renteria gone and his platoon partner probably taking over at SS, it's hard to see KJ getting less time.
