Agreed. A lot of people projected Konerko's down year so it's not like it was out of nowhere. I think he'll be the same player as last year. I'm not willing to go too high on Pena but if he's there when it's decent value I'll go for it. I know he won't be though.

I'm going to be the lone voice of dissent.... :-o

Pena .280-100-40-110-0
Konerko .285-85-35-95-0

I think he's legit...he just passed 2000 ab's this year. He has always had the power...but has lacked the discipline. For whatever reason, maybe less pressure than Boston or detroit, he developed an eye, drew 100 walks, and raised his average to .282. If you look at his minor league states he has hit for a .283 ave, hit over .300 a couple times, and also drew lots of walks. it seems to me that the potential that had him drafted in the ist round in 1998 is finally coming together.

I think Konerko's numbers will continue to slide, as the Sox continue to age....

I wouldn't taking either if they fall enough. Although I would go with Konerko over Pena until, like others said, I see another year like the last. Question though. I don't recall anyone really projecting a down year from Konerko, but maybe I was missing something. Why was it projected?

Same here, mainly because the odds are good you'll get a top-tier 1B in the draft anyway and the worst you could probably get is Derrek Lee. Assuming that doesn't happen, I'd take Konerko unless Pena slides down the draft further, although I'm sure a few folks will take Pena for where he's slated to go.
