MLB radio is reporting that the White Sox will acquire Carlos Quentin from the Diamondbacks for Chris Carter. We hope the Diamondbacks are getting a quality pitching prospect in return as well. Quentin's stock is down, especially following shoulder surgery, but he's still a fine bet to have a long career as a regular corner outfielder. Carter, who shares the same name as the first baseman the Diamondbacks traded to Boston in the three-team Wily Mo Pena deal, hit .291/.383/.522 as a 20-year-old in low-A ball last season. What a weird trade for Arizona. You'd think that Quentin is a golden lock looking at his minor league stats. Every minor league stop .400+ OBP. With nice power. There must be something seriously wrong with him for them to gamble like this. A ball is A ball. Chris Carter looks outstanding , but he really hasn't faced anything yet. I think we'll hear more of this.
Maybe it is half a trade with Carter going to Oakland for Haren or Blanton???

I think they just moved Quentin because they just have too many OF (already have Byrnes, Upton, Young, and Gonzalez) Not to mention he's be plagued with injuries. However, I still like the deal for the ChiSox.

This trade leads me to believe that Quentin's long term health might be in serious doubt. He will be productive on the field but the question is, will his injuries limit his playing time significantly?

I'm trying to remember exactly what Quentin's injury was. Wasn't it a torn labrum on his non-throwing shoulder? Was there another injury? Doesn't seem like this would significantly affect an OF'er long-term. I think this is a great trade by the Chisox.
