Hamels vs Verlander

I think the two are very close but I'd go with Hamels by a hair. If not for Hamels's injuries, this would be an easier decision.

his injuries have been fluky though. nothing major at all.

Not sure. Although minor, he had a shoulder issue in 06 and an elbow injury in 07 (pitching related) so I wouldn't call them completely fluky. But like I said, I like him a little more.

Ranking pitchers is tough this year.....all the guys within each of my pitching tiers could be switched around and i wouldn't disagree with any order they were put in. Alot of similar value out there....which equals alot of differing SP rankings. Should be fun to see how things get sorted out by everyone.

I think Hamels will go higher than Verlander, so I'm all right picking up Verlander a round lower and using the pick elsewhere. Not alot of seperation between the 2.

i'm surprised this many people are down on Verlander. he had almost the same kper9 as liriano in the minors and upped his k's last year after scrapping the knuckle curveball that plagued him with blisters. he actualy went to a more conventional curve in 06 which is why there was a decline in K's but he's starting to master that conventional curve now after a season so i do expect the k's to rise more.

plus he's durable, probably the most durable young SP in todays game.
