Rays Plan For New Stadium; Not Weather

Are they going to make it a 999 person stadium so they can almost sell out every night?

The stadium will actually have this fabric type sails that come up to enclose the stadium and keep out the rain and the heat. They have used this type of technology over in Europe and Saudi Arabi to keep out the heat and elements and it works real well.

The Trop is going to be redeveloped and made into condos and a shopping area. The proceeds from the sale of that will be put into the new stadium. Sternburg is also putting it around 100 million of private money into the stadium and there will be no new taxes on the people of Tampa. What they are planning is taking some of the revenue from the tourists taxes and using that, but there would not be an increase or new tax for people from Tampa so it costs them no real money essentially.

It is going to be an awesome site and they are trying to redevelop and not so great part of the waterfront and get people out there. They compared it to Coors field in Colorado, in that from what I understand that area was not the nicest before, but is very nice now. (ACS you may know if that is true)

Hello? Hurricanes?

There has not been a direct hit by a Hurricane in Tampa in a very long time becuase of where we are positioned it is almost impossible. Also, the Lightning arena is already on the waterfront.

I don't think a foot higher sea level in 100 years is going to impact the stadium that much.

A foot of water can often spread miles inland in low-lying areas.

A few inches of water can be devastating in the wrong place.

Didn't I read last week that the Rays don't actually own what they are trying to sell, that the land is actually under a rental contract only? Wasn't this on baseball musings?

Correct the City owns it. The Rays are going to find the buyer and developer for the City and the excess profit will be used for the stadium, is how I understand it
