I'm in a new dynasty league where we start with 20 players, both major and minor league, from the team name we choose. I got the Orioles, so naturally I'm looking to rebuild with prospects starting with Matt Wieters. Most of the top prospects have been claimed on the account that they belonged to a team that was taken (so the Reds have Bruce, Votto, Cuento, and Bailey for example).
I have the top 2 picks in our prospects draft. Who should I take? These are the top players left and, yes, Japanese players are considered prospects in this league.
Colby Rasmus (STL) Andrew McCutchen (PIT) Kosuke Fukudome (JP) Adam Jones (SEA) Jeff Clement (SEA) Rick Porcello (DET) Angel Villalona (SF)
I know I'm taking Colby Rasmus, but I don't know who to take second.
I would go for Adam Jones, with McCutcheon getting edged out.
He has slightly less potential than McCutcheon, but a significantly better chance of reaching it I think. Jones will also be the starting Right Fielder for the M's next season, so you will get immediate return on your selection as well.
Fukudome is an interesting one as well. He will probably outperform Jones this upcoming year but he is going to be 30 or 31. He is a decent Outfielder option for next year, and if you were to make a serious run at winning next year I would give him serious thought. Overall though I would still go Jones.
Clement has serious power at the C position, but lacks the overall talent and upside of Jones. Porcello has TOR potential, but is a bit too far away to pass on a guy like Jones or McCutcheon. Villalona is too far away, and I wouldn't even put him on the same tier as the rest of these guys yet anyway.
Rasmus is an absolute, then go with either McCutchen or Porcello. The O's have some nice SP prospects in Spoone, Olsen, Arietta, Beato and Liz (who may get moved to the bullpen), but don't let that sway you away from Porcello if thats the way you want to go.
I think I'd take Adam Jones since it looks like he has a starting spot. He has the high upside and is closer than the others to being a solid fantasy contributor. I would take Fukudome if he was 100% coming over, but there is still a chance he goes back to Japan.
These would be my 2. I still think McCutchen has enough upside that he is worth the wait over Jones. This is obviously if you feel like waiting a year or 2 for the better production.
Why is Porcello available but not Maybin? Jones got more AB than him last season, so that couldn't be it. Anyways, I would take Maybin over all them if you could, and if not I would probably take McCutchen.
Considering that you have the Orioles OF, it might be worthwhile to pickup Adam Jones since you probably need someone to start this year. Rasmus might play this year, but he will probably start the year in the minors for at least 2 months.
RASMUS has to be one, he is on another level, even than all the guys on this list. All these guys will be good, but hes the only one with real superstar upside. He wont have the job this year like jones or fukodome, but who cares, take the better player. I like Porcello as the 2nd pick. He should be a real good arm.
