In an unworthy of adding note, they also received a 25 yr old from AA, Sean Danielson, to complete the Joel Piniero trade. Feel free to leave that one out. :-b

The Jays got some obscure AA reliever by the name of Brian Wolfe to complete the Corey Koskie trade a few years ago. Wolfe surprisingly put up a 2.98 ERA in 45 IP this season when he got the opportunity, and was a large reason why the Jays had the #2 bullpen in the AL. So, you never know. :-b

Andy Pettitte declined to take the $16 million player option on his contract.

Greg Maddux and the Padres agreed to a 1-year, $10 million contract.

It's a win-win for everyone. Schilling gets to stay with the team he wanted all along, the Red Sox get a proven pitcher back for a discounted price and everyone else can hate him again.

Believe me, I hated Schilling long before he became a Red Sock and will hate him long after he leaves. It does make it more enjoyable to watch him get shelled now, though. :-D

$1 million for receiving a Cy Young vote, any vote.

Does he have anyone in his pocket to make this happen??

Did I ‘leave’ money on the table, yes. Could I have gotten another year? I think so. In talking with my advisor Ed Hayes, assessing the market place and current free agent crop as well as existing contracts. Looking at the teams that called, my best guess would be around 14-15 million for a 1 year deal with the potential to get 25-30 for a two year deal.

Maybe there was a desparate team out there but who would give him 2 years and/or $30M??
